EMOTIONAL’s Demons

San Fransisco

EMOTIONAL AKA Brian Wakefield, is cherry-topping 2013 with his fourth record titled Demons, which he had recorded over the course of the past year and a half in SF, LA, and Portland. Wakefield thinks of Demons as the release that’s closest to his initial idea for the EMOTIONAL project. Explaining his refreshed approach, he says, “EMOTIONAL is an experiment in pop music and also in failure to make the sounds I have in my head, I realized as long as something comes out, it’s probably okay.” Prior to that, three tapes were already born last year: Feeling and Ice Sculptor III, out on Gnar tapes, and Alright, released on Splash Tapes. Then, a few months ago Brian met Fred Thomas when they played a gig in San Fransisco’s Vacation, Fred was quite impressed with Brian and suggested a collaboration that led to releasing the Demons cassette on his Life Like Tapes label. The two tracks below offer exquisite warped pop and emo noise that’s guaranteed to relieve your weary psyche from doing all its end-of-year rough self-scrutiny (the missed calls, missed opps, failed loves and diets, shattered expectations, blank promises and an even more hollow soul.)

You can get the cassette via Life Like Tapes and stream/download the album here. Also watch the nice album preview vid at the bottom, shot by Jacqueline Kramer.
